Restylane®

Restylane® is called a dermal filler because it is used to fill in wrinkles, fine lines, and other facial imperfections from the inside. It is a clear gel made of hyaluronic acid, a chemical compound that occurs naturally in the body. It is synthesized in a laboratory, so it is very unlikely to cause allergic reactions and other negative side effects – making it safe for almost any patient. This gives it a significant advantage over fillers like collagen that are derived from animal products, which are more likely to cause side effects.

Restylane® is typically most effective when used to fill mild to moderate lines and wrinkles. It is especially useful around the eyes, nose, and mouth, where working with facial contours requires a delicate touch. The injections also serve a secondary function: as the body gradually absorbs the hyaluronic acid gel over time, the gel moisturizes the skin, leaving it smoother and more supple even after the primary effect of the gel wears off.
